Exercise:

Still not exercising but doing better with chores and moving as much as possible.

Diet:

Not great because we had Thanksgiving, traveling and then birthdays so lots of cakes, pies and cookies! However, making better choices overall this week but need to break a couple habits of snacking on peanut M&Ms and grabbing a Dr. Pepper when the mood strikes. Just cutting those two will make a difference.

Overall:

Feeling a little melancholy lately but I think it’s pregnancy hormones. The weight gain really jumped this last two weeks which also plays a part. Worst part is I know what I have to do to feel better but I just don’t “want” to. It’s Advent now and part of my penance is to do the things I don’t want to do and getting back onto a good diet and exercise routine is one of those things I need to make myself just do. I always hated the Nike slogan to, “Just Do It” and now I know why… really hard to make yourself do what you don’t want to do. Pray I can overcome the childishness!

Love and God’s blessings,
Sarah

Exercise:

Still not exercising. Read below to find out why.. also the plan is to start walking inside on the “Gazelle” again every day for 20 minutes. I am also starting the nerd fitness beginner bodyweight workout again today (Saturday, I’m a day late.)

Diet:

Terrible right now! I cut a lot of protein because of the heartburn and stomach irritation and it’s still really hard to eat chicken because it always seems to get stuck in my throat and tiny amounts seem to fill me up and expand to hurt. So, unconsciously, in the last couple weeks I have drifted to almost totally carbs and sugars and I feel terrible! Read below for the overall where I talk about what got me to this place..

Overall:

I had my 6 month follow-up from the surgery (yes, I still go every 6 months for blood draws to see where my vitamins and nutrients are deficient because I want to know when they start dropping and not wait till I’m in the ER with a severe deficiency like you always read about) and the blood test came back with me on the extreme low end of Iron and Vitamin D! Both would explain the extreme fatigue I have been plagued with in the last 3-4 weeks. I was immediately put on a liquid Iron supplement (YUCK!) and doubled my Vitamin D intake. I have to say, after just 3 days I feel SOOOOOO much better. I am not exhausted and I haven’t taken a nap today at all. I feel normal again and I’m looking forward to getting the eating and the exercising back to snuff. Coupled with the weight gain in the last two weeks I feel sluggish still but less of the deep internal wariness and more of the muscle loss type of sluggishness, if that makes any sense? What does this mean? I should be back on an upswing! God willing this one will last longer than the last one…

Love and God’s blessings,
Sarah

Friday Weight Check – Week 22

Starting weight: 184.6 lbs

  • Week 19: 203.0
  • Week 20: skip
  • Week 21: 208.4
  • Week 22: 206.8 (up 22.2 overall)

Exercise:

Still not exercising but I am doing more laundry and chores around the house. I feel like this last week wasn’t as severe for the fatigue as the week before. Maybe I just needed a break? The rotator cuff injury has definitely seen some improvement. Still, I feel like I need to increase my mobility a little more this week. Thinking about adding in some light walking, maybe only 10 minutes at a time to begin with, throughout the day.

Diet:

Same as last week although the heartburn is extreme if I fill my stomach so I am avoiding eating full meals. It’s helping keep my weight down since I’m not exercising but I know it’s a temporary fix. I get hungry a lot so I eat little things pretty much all day long.

Overall:

Mentally I’m a little depressed from the lack of exercise and it seems like I’m just too tired to make an effort. I hate the heartburn and I feel like it’s a constant battle to keep it at bay. The heartburn doesn’t seem to have a rhyme or reason to strike and so it makes it hard to counter.

Love and God’s blessings,
Sarah

Friday Weight Check – Week 21

Starting weight: 184.6 lbs

Start of pregnancy: 06-09-17

Due Date: 03-08-18

  • Week 6: 191.6 (doctor appt that confirmed pregnancy)
  • Week 7: 193.2
  • Week 8: 191.2
  • Week 9: 194.6
  • Week 10: 191.0
  • Surprise! Ultrasound says we are actually on week 12.

  • Week 17: 201.6
  • Week 18: 201.4
  • Week 19: 203.0
  • Week 20: skip
  • Week 21: 208.4 (up 23.8 overall)

Exercise:

Hit a wall on Sunday before week 20 and stopped exercising cold turkey. Lots of little injuries and fatigue hit hard and I haven’t recovered.

Diet:

I’m eating less to accommodate the lack of exercise calories but still a small gain each week. Still eating better than I have been and cut out the Coke and ice cream. Not a total loss since the diet hasn’t gone to the wayside with the exercising.

Overall:

I look like I’m 6 months pregnant even though I’m only 4-1/2 months pregnant. The heartburn has been bad and I can’t eat full meals because of my stomach capacity from the baby intruding into it’s space. That’s helped with the diet but because of the lack of exercise I’m getting mentally fatigued and irritable a lot easier. Exercise is the key to mental health, I think, which means whether I feel like it or not I need to do something…

Sarah

Friday Weight Check – Week 19

Starting weight: 184.6 lbs

Start of pregnancy: 06-09-17

Due Date: 03-08-18

  • Week 6: 191.6 (doctor appt that confirmed pregnancy)
  • Week 7: 193.2
  • Week 8: 191.2
  • Week 9: 194.6
  • Week 10: 191.0
  • Surprise! Ultrasound says we are actually on week 12.
  • Week 12: 192.2
  • Week 13: Labor Day weekend, on vacation, no scale
  • Week 14: 197.0
  • Week 15: 201.4
  • Week 16: 198.8
  • Week 17: 201.6
  • Week 18: 201.4
  • Week 19: 203.0 (up 18.4 overall)

Exercise:

I’m on week 5 (day 1 and 2) of the C25K. Week 5, day 3 moves from two 8-minute runs to a solid 20 minute run which I am not comfortable with yet so I am doing an extra week of days 1 and 2 of week 5. I’m thinking, on Sunday or Monday, I will try doing one set of day 3 and see how it goes. In other exercising progress I started doing planks again to work on my core and upper arm strength. I am also doing a lot more stretching since my sciatic nerve is acting up as well as my rotator cuff. Nothing that can’t be fixed with due diligence but also can’t be ignored or it will become an injury.

Diet:

Same as last week and I only had coke a couple times. Better than every day but I need to just cut it cold turkey. Problem is that I substitute ice cream when I don’t drink the coke! Ugh, get off the roller coaster already..

Overall:

Hold steady but haven’t been getting enough sleep (only 4-5 hours for the last couple nights) which is going to cause me to crash before too long. Pretty sure the extra two pounds this week are from my hormones from the lack of sleep, it always screws me up pretty bad when I’m sleep deprived. I took three days off from running this last week because of the fatigue from the sleep deprivation but I think that ended up hurting more than helping. I got back into running today despite only 4 hours sleep last night and I DO feel better this morning even though I will probably crash and burn this evening. We shall see..

Love and God’s blessings,
Sarah

Friday Weight Check – Week 18

Starting weight: 184.6 lbs

Start of pregnancy: 06-09-17

Due Date: 03-08-18

  • Week 6: 191.6 (doctor appt that confirmed pregnancy)
  • Week 7: 193.2
  • Week 8: 191.2
  • Week 9: 194.6
  • Week 10: 191.0
  • Surprise! Ultrasound says we are actually on week 12.
  • Week 12: 192.2
  • Week 13: Labor Day weekend, on vacation, no scale
  • Week 14: 197.0
  • Week 15: 201.4
  • Week 16: 198.8
  • Week 17: 201.6
  • Week 18: 201.4 (up 16.8 overall)

Exercise:

I’m on week 4 of the C25K program. I did week one and half of week two in the first week. On the second week I finished week two and did week three as well. On Tuesday of this week I started week four and it kicked my butt! I’m still doing two workouts per day (meaning I did the 31 minute workout two times for a total of 62 minutes and 4.6 miles!) but instead of doing the third day of week four on Thursday and going on to week five I had to skip working out till Friday (today) and it was too hard on the first leg so I decided to keep to the schedule for week four. That means tomorrow I will do the third day of week 4 and see how I feel about starting the first day of week 5. I keep kicking around the idea of adding some strength exercises but I re-hurt my left rotator cuff and I’m afraid of doing anything upper body to make it worse.

Diet:

Same as last week only I have a super secret that is killing me… I started drinking coke again!! Gasp!! Such an ugly habit, pray hard for me to not let it become a regular thing.

Overall:

Weight is the same but clothes are fitting fine and bloating is down significantly. Mentally, I’m dealing with the fallout of opening myself up to the coke habit again. I know having it three times doesn’t make it a habit but it was almost three days in a row! That’s dangerous territory.. Let’s see how it shakes out next week.

Love and God’s blessings,
Sarah

Friday Weight Check – Week 17

Starting weight: 184.6 lbs

Start of pregnancy: 06-09-17

Due Date: 03-08-18

  • Week 6: 191.6 (doctor appt that confirmed pregnancy)
  • Week 7: 193.2
  • Week 8: 191.2
  • Week 9: 194.6
  • Week 10: 191.0
  • Surprise! Ultrasound says we are actually on week 12.
  • Week 12: 192.2
  • Week 13: Labor Day weekend, on vacation, no scale
  • Week 14: 197.0
  • Week 15: 201.4
  • Week 16: 198.8
  • Week 17: 201.6 (up 17 overall)

Exercise:

I just finished week 3 of the C25K program which has me doing 2 splits of 90 seconds run, 90 seconds of walk, 3 minute run, 3 minute walk. I do two full sets of those each morning combined with a 5 minute warm up and 5 minute cool down put me at 46 minutes altogether for my exercising. I do the run/walk program every other day. Despite my weight going up I noticed better muscle definition in my legs and arms so I know it’s conversion of fat to muscle increasing my weight which is just fine with me.

Diet:

Much the same except I noticed on Myfitnesspal that my calories are increasing to 1700-1800 on the days I run. I seem to just be hungry all the time! However, I seem to make better food choices on the days I run so I’m not sure it’s a bad thing. It would be nice to see the weight go down but since I AM pregnant its not too likely anyway.

Overall:

Not much to say, heartburn days are still a struggle since I still tend to try to eat it away and it’s just plain miserable. Sleeping on those nights tends to get iffy and that’s a mental struggle as well as physical. I think all the running tends to help somehow since I have had less heartburn days lately. Oh, and I got myself back onto a good multivitamin again so that might help as well. I’m pretty terrible about taking pills with any regularity.

Love and God’s blessings,
Sarah
